How to wash your car using the two bucket method
It is essential that you use the two bucket method when washing your car.
Most people, when the wash their car, are likely to use a single bucket, whereby they will repeatedly place the dirty sponge or rag into the wash bucket, rinsing it out and getting more soap.
This means that they are most likely to retain small particles or debris in the sponge or rag and continue to rub this all over the car. This ultimately results in fine scratches appearing in the paint.
An easy and effective way to stop this happening is to use the two bucket method.
We would also recommend that you use a good quality wash mitt made of wool or microfibre to wash your car as these will pick up and hold the dirt away from the vehicle making it less likely to cause damage to your paint.

The first bucket should be used for water only (a rinsing bucket) the second bucket for a soap & water mixture (a washing bucket).
Some detailers even take the time to label each bucket 'Rinse’ and ‘Wash’ which saves any confusion in the future as to what bucket you used for what.
A word of warning, never, ever use dish washing soap on your car as this will remove the protective layer (wax) on your car. Instead invest in a good quality car shampoo and you will reap the rewards and have a great looking & clean car.
Optional, but highly recommended, is a set of Grit Guards. Grit Guards are pieces of circular plastic that fit into the bottom of your bucket. These grit guards keep grit from getting back into your wash mitt. When you rinse your mitt the grit falls to the bottom of the bucket and the Grit Guard will prevent it from flowing back up into the water.
Lastly we would also suggest that you use a drying towel rather than chamois leather. A drying towel should be placed on the car to soak up the water rather than rubbing, this rubbing motion can cause scratches.
